Psychic tides

You know, I never really noticed it before in the years I have been following my path up until now how the psychic tide's have an affect on you. I'm speaking specifically of the monthly cycle. Over the past few days I have really felt the need to go within and evaluate things such as life, goals, feelings etc. It's as if I'm looking to see what it is I need to rid myself of, what's holding me back and at times my emotions definitely change. It seems as if I get a little more irritable when this… Continue

Hi all

My name is Sarah, and I am new to Wicca. It's something that has always interested me, but until recently I haven't been able to find anyone or anywhere to go to learn. Today I discovered an ad for Witch School on Facebook, and here I am! All help, advice and friendship would be gratefully appreciated, as I really am a 'baby' in knowledge terms. I've enrolled in a couple of courses, but I feel a bit lost lol.

Types of Buddhist Meditation

Meditation is a key component of Buddhist practice, tied to the Right Mindfulness and Right Concentration components of the Buddha's Eightfold Path. Meditation is also essential for developing Right Understanding - a direct, rather than purely intellectual, knowledge of the Four Noble Truths.

There are hundreds of different Buddhist meditation techniques, most of which are specific to a particular branch of Buddhism, or even a specific teacher. However, most of these techniques fall… Continue

A refreshing read ...

Here is one of those rare books that I actually bought at retail (well, at a 40% discount off of cover, but hey, it wasn't used, from the dollar store or a clearance sale, or a review copy!), which is, I suppose a bit of a testimony to the author in and of itself. Sam Harris is, of course, one of the leading… Continue

Memorial Day: A Day Of Remembrance

Happy Memorial Day! Ah, yes. The summer season has opened, flags are flying, barbeques are among, businesses are celebrating with half price sales and low and behold even the economy is showing some baby steps towards improvement. It’s going to be a great day, right? But excuse me, please. Between the next hamburger and cold beer maybe you won’t mind taking a few minutes to honor, the spirit of the day.

Did you know for instance that the first Memorial Days were called Decoration… Continue

The Four Noble Truths 3 & 4

3. Suffering can end, Nirvana is Peace

This is the most positive message of Buddhism: although suffering is always present in cyclic existence, we can end this cycle of problems and pain, and enter Nirvana, which is a state beyond all suffering. The reasoning behind this Third Noble Truth is the fact that suffering and the causes of suffering are dependent on the state of our own mind, so if we can change our own mind, we can also eliminate suffering. The… Continue

Memorial Day

I hope you are all having a safe and fabulous Memorial Holiday and are conscious of why the US celebrates this day... I'd like to offer a prayer, and energy to our living troops, and blessings to our fallen ones from every time, and dimension...

Prayer for our troops

O God, mighty warrior, champion of infinite goodness, I pray to you now to guard our troops. I realize that ours is not a perfect world. This is the reason why many countries have military; to protect… Continue

An AWESOME book for the job search!

Wow. As regular readers of this space know, I've been involved in various job searches over much of the past decade, and I'm amazed that this book (despite having gone through many on the same subject) never came to my attention before now, in its 6th edition. Frankly, had the good folks over at Ten Speed Press… Continue

Possession

I am the gaurdian of the watchtower of the north.
Can you not hear me? Can you not see me?.
I am right here, But don't get too close...
Cause i feel them now, The screaming ghosts...
Are in my soul. Their soaking in my skin,
Right through to the bone.
The pain, somehow I'm drawn to it.
Why is it that I feel so re-born?.
Where am I? And why is it so dark in here?.
Who am I? How can I get out?.
I'm trapped, But for how long?...

Incantation

I know the creeper has twined the tree.
Which means I control your mind..Deeply.
Listen to my voice as I possess your heart.
From now on, You and I will never part.
For an eternity we will stay this way.
Yes, Listen to me, There's nothing you can say.
Until the day that we must die..
Is when the spell will leave you dry.

The Four Noble Truths 1 & 2

*Today I'll be discussing the first 2 of the Noble Truths. We'll talk about 3 & 4 tomorrow*

The Buddha

The teachings on the four noble truths are among the very first of many teaching that shakyamuni Buddha gave in Sarnath (near Benares or Varanasi in North-East India)

Seven weeks after attaining enlightenment in Bodhgaya. These teaching are known to contain the essence of the Buddhis path, regardless of the tradition one… Continue

Framing the Mayan culture ...

I was very excited to “win” this from the LibraryThing.com “Early Reviewer” program. “Archeological travel” had been a passion of mine in my 20's and 30's, and I was fortunate to be able to visit a good number of sites around the world. The Mayan sites in the Yucatan were especially attractive, largely due to their proximity (a… Continue
