Pagan News and Views Since 1998

I was invited to a free all-Paths meet-up with some six or seven pagans and occultist in a bar -my first time ever going to their meet-up group- and one polite ceremonial magician leaned over to ask me what I was "interested in", no sooner had I mentioned that I was into Wicca and studying at the WSI, when all of a sudden a woman in the group -who I hadn't been introduced to yet- looked straight over at me and exclaimed; "Oh no, don't tell me you're studying with them! They're a money-making racket!" And she continued to tell me that, "As you go higher up in the degrees, it's nothing but scientology."
I was shocked to be castigated by someone whom I have never met before. I made sure that she understood I was studying Correllian wicca, but she reaffirmed her conviction that "They're all scientologist!" I wasn't convinced of her claims, but asked her what tradition or path she followed, she said she was an Alexandrian. It was the first time I met an Alexandrian witch before, never mind a bigoted Alexandrian witch.

wow that had to be an interesting meet up and wow this lady absolutely is a nutter, the only thing i can think of is since Ed;s last name is Hubbard she ties that in with L Ron Hubbard . that is a rumor that i have heard many times and it is totally without merit, surprised she didn't accuser Ed of being Illuminati

You're probably right about the last name "Hubbard" being the connection, and it's a bit of a stretch alright. lol
Even though I was initially honored by the invite, I was underwhelmed to meet such personages especially after they talked enthusiastically for two hours about electronically tagged bacon, and other, utterly inane and useless subjects. They did touch upon the question of the nature of gods/goddesses (and the "facets of the diamond" analogy rose its predictable head), but that was for a paltry 20 seconds, or so (and at my instigation).
I felt dumb leaving the meet-up, like I had lost some of my IQ, or like my brain was made dumber by being in their presence. When I got home I immediately took a shower and read a clever book in an attempt to claw back some of my lost intelligence. I doubt I'd be going back to their meet-ups again.

Most people just dont like the fact that WS charges to cover the cost of running such a global school. Its too bad that other groups never seem to want to work with us to expand everyone knowledge about all paths.

I've had a couple of sharp reactions from people who now know I study at WSI, mostly from academic colleagues who also state that "it's a Scientology racket." Interestingly enough, none of them had even visited the site--or would admit to it. I have a parrot...he verbalizes much of what I say...probably without thinking, too! ;-)

Considering Alexander took (stole) much from Gardner I'd think she'd be the last to talk.

odd but there is a local meeting for pagans in my area at a barnes and noble. I went one time and was surprised at the lack of any real info or willingness to talk to anyone else (there wasnt any social time ect). This was before I was really trying to do anything with WSI and was trying to find something local. I was dismayed and disheartened as it was three people standing up reading notes off a piece of paper that they passed back and forth. I have attempted since then to have others that I know are into the craft check out WSI as a place to gain knowledge and socialize on the chat. Stay positive and attract what you need. When you are ready the opportunity will arise. BB

what is the world without ' knowledge ' ? and many are blind sided by not knowing, this is why study is important.
if you close the mind you only know one way,and when you get to the end of the journey what then? it sounds like to be being stuck, and their just to much to learn.
