What are we?
Well, love, that's simple. We are quiet, we wake the early morning dew, and stay awake to dance with the moon. No, dear child, we have no bed time. No time to get all snuggled up tight, and kiss our parents goodnight- for we need but little sleep. We are all around you. The dance of the leaves on an autumn day, the swaying of the trees in the wind, the beating of the drums in the distance. Yes, dear one, we know much. Ha! And we are very old indeed, you are right. No, no, we musn't meet those whom you love; for they would be afraid. Why? Well, . . . because, my sweet, grown - ups are quite afraid of what they don't understand. Oh yes, you'll see it more oft as you grow, and if you lose your faith, see less of us. Oh you won't, will you? Well, in that case, would you like to come and stay awhile with us, when you grow just a wee bit older? You would? Well! We shall have the grandest of times! Until then, child. Until we meet again.
