The Many Thoughts of a Newbie to the Wiccan Faith

When it comes to Gods and Goddesses which ones are the proper ones to call the matron and patron Deities? Are you supposed to go with the deities that you feel the most drawn to or are you supposed to go with the ones that came first in the line? Would it be Loki because I feel a serious connection to him, or would it be Odin because he is the father of the Norse line? Can you only have one patron God and one matron Goddess or can you pick one from each "mythology"? If I wanted to worship a Goddess that is depicted a certain way on a video game, then can I do that?

When it comes to your magical name can you have more than one? I mean like one that you are known by on a website, one that you are known by by your coven, and one that is only known by you and maybe your beloved. I have been told that telling people your whole magical name can make you more susceptible to magic if that person chooses to use any against you... which is really the only reason why I ask.

My last question is my most important question. Why does the grade for my test in Astrology say that it is a 0.0/4.0 when I completed the test and got at least a 63% on it? I know that it isn't a passing grade, but the 0% makes my studies look a lot worse than the 63% would.

As a rule you generally go with the Goddess and or God that you feel most drawn to.

As far as names go, i think you can have as many as you want. and as far as people using your name against you in a magickal sense. Well i don't really have a belief in curses honestly. nor do i really believe magick can affect other people aside from the magick user. I mean i could be wrong, but it's how i feel. I just feel magick is about vibrations and intention. and for the most part thats something that affects one's self. I'm not so sure wishing harm on people hurts anyone than the one wishing it.

I also believe life is a mirror of ourselves, so if someone is trying to curse you, it can only affect you, if you already have something in you, that is a match to it. Also, a lot of good comes from bad things in our life. So if someone curses you, they may actually be doing you a favor. Because it is an opportunity to grow stronger.

About your class. I'm sorry your having problems, I myself worry about doing poorly :( I'm new here. I'm really good at learning, but really bad at tests lol. I suppose I only care to learn what I want, and not what a text expects I should have learned.

I can totally agree with you on learning only things that you want to learn. I rarely get things out of text that I don't deem as being important to me.

I, also, agree with your statement that a lot of good comes from bad things in our lives. Maybe a curse would make you stronger... just as long as it doesn't kill you.

You said exactly what my fiancee said when it came to who a person will choose for their God and/or Goddess. (I kind of wondered if that would be like the creation following the creation, though.)

A lot of times you don't get to choose your patron deity -- he or she chooses you. Until that happens (if it happens--it doesn't happen for everyone), certainly feel free to honor whoever you choose. You don't need to call a deity by name, either. Many people just use "Lord and Lady" or "God and Goddess" instead of honoring specific deities.

Not everyone has a magical name -- it isn't a requirement. I went for about 10 years without a magical name, and only received one when I initiated into a coven. It is a name that I only used in that setting. Even though my husband was an initiate in the same coven, we didn't use our Craft names in our day-to-day lives. On the other hand, we've both been on the internet since the early 1990s, so we've had more user names on web sites than we could easily count.

Regarding curses, if someone really wants to harm you, they can do it whether they know your name (magical or mundane) or whether you believe in it or not. Think of a curse like a gun. If someone points it at you and fires, it doesn't matter if you believe in the bullets or not, and it doesn't matter if someone knew your deepest darkest secrets or not -- the bullets will still either hit you or not hit you based on the whim of the universe.

As far as the grades go, you'll want to contact the site admin to see what's going on. They should be able to either reset your grade or fix it manually.
